Stilbaai: Accommodation: Rein's Coastal Nature Reserve Gartour
Guide to the Garden Route & Klein Karoo  - South Africa!

Rein's Coastal Nature Reserve

Rein's Coastal Nature reserve This unique destination of 3500 hectare and 7½ kilometres of coastline is situated on the Cape Town side entrance to the Garden Route. The Private Nature Reserve is the last of the pristine Albertinia Coastal Fynbos and includes more than 22 endangered plant species. Whales are spotted year round, but mostly between June and November.

The Small Five include the endangered flightless Dung beetle. Cape Mountain Zebra, Bontebok, Eland, Red Hartebees, Bush Buck, Grey Rhebuck, Caracals and Honey badger are regularly sighted. Rein’s is a bird-watcher’s paradise, being a registered Bird Club. Of cultural interest are the Khoi-San fish traps which date back 4000 years, and which are still operational.

Not only is our exquisite reserve one of the only places in South Africa where 'fynbos' flourishes in abundance, but it also plays host to a number of rare and endangered plant species. The 'Lobostemon' and the 'Erica Gouriqua' are found nowhere else in the world.

Rein's offers the history of the Khoisan hunter-gatherers who roamed the Cape coastline 4000 years ago. The reserve has a Herbarium for the keen botanist with species lists and Vegetation Maps available

Activities: Guided walks, mountain biking, snorkelling, star gazing programme, fishing, rubber duck boat trips, guided bird trail, whale watching from the air, Rein’s Tortoise Express - 1½ hour Fynbos or 3 hour Fynbos & Farm visit.
