Monkeyland

Monkeyland

Monkeyland is situated 18 km east of Plettenberg Bay. This primate sanctuary is unique in that it not only provides protection and a home for the indigenous species of primate, but for species from several other continents.

All the monkeys at Monkeyland come from captive conditions, either rescued from laboratories, caged pets or zoo animals. After rehabilitation and reintroduction period the primates are released into Monkeyland’s magnificent Tsitsikamma-type forest thus spending the remainder of their lives as free-roaming primates.

Monkeyland is a tourism driven sanctuary and we are proud to share our sanctuary with visitors, and eager to explain our conservation efforts, from the primates’ ability here to breed naturally and to raise their young in free family groups in the forest, to the pristine conditions and sustainability of the project and the environment in which it is situated.
